Thank you!!!! Im not saying you should drink caffine everyday, but dang it if i am having a craving for rootbeer or dr. pepper im going to have one. Drugs are going to have a longer effect and withdrawls. CPS cant take your kids if the like caffeine or if they are hyper. If anything my daughter will have ADHD from her dad.

... You are allowed 200mg of caffine a day. I drank a cup of coffee every morning with both pregnancies and my children are fine. Aside from the effects drugs can have on the baby, IT'S ILLEGAL! Every baby is drug tested and in some states the mother is too while in the hospital. CPS will be called and your child will be taken. You are suppose to be there for your baby. I personally think it's incredibly selfish to do that...

I had to quit drinking caffeine cold turkey when I first found out I was pregnant and since my morning sickness has subsided quite a bit and I was starting to get horrible migraines that nothing was helping my Dr gave me the ok to have one can of soda a day cause I still can't drink coffee it makes me so sick. Since doing so I haven't had any problems with migraines and I sleep lots better at night and actually have a Lil energy to get things done during the day. With 6 kids and caffeine being my go to to deal with this house is needed some help. I've always drank caffeine when I was pregnant and never had any issues. Drugs r horrible for a baby and most ppl never realize how bad it really is. I know someone who lost their kids due to drugs and both kids r delayed so bad and even though there's no serious birth defects they could've ended up a lot worse

Caffeine is a drug, however, studies show that it's okay in amounts under 200mg. But hard drugs such as meth, cocaine and heroine can have major affects and withdrawal affects on a baby! That also includes pain killers, benzodiazepines that have or have not been prescribed and even anti-depressants. Things like weed have really no proven risk on the baby and have been proven to help both mother and baby through a pregnancy to prevent stress and sickness (: and cigarettes are bad, yes, but with any addiction and use of hard drugs or any drug during pregnancy it shouldn't be taken lightly and it should be under a doctors care because quoting cold turkey can do more harm than good!

And if you are open with your doctor about drug problems, they are typically more apt to want to help and make a plan for you and your baby so you get the help you need and the baby is given the appropriate care

And it may seem "selfish" but often times addiction is a lot stronger than reality and I don't truly believe people understand that until they've personally struggled. Threatening to take someone's child only makes them hide it more opposed to seeking the appropriate help. Just my opinion, but I am surrounded by addicts in my boyfriends family and have seen all of this first hand and know how it goes

You're right @emaleejoy about addiction being something that a lot of people won't understand unless they've personally dealt with it rather themselves or with a close family member or friend. But yeah if drug use is suspected both mother and baby will be tested, usually meconium because it goes back to about 16 weeks when urine will usually only go back two weeks. Benzos especially can cause a great deal of harm if ingested in the first trimester. As far as pain killers go the baby will (usually) be okay but will suffer pretty bad withdrawal symptoms when they're born. Drug use during pregnancy is no joke.
