My son is 6 weeks and eats 8 oz and weighs 8 lbs people keep saying he's suppose to eat half his weight but he doesn't…

There's no set amount babies should eat! It's whatever they need! Babies will tell you when they're full(:

@emaleejoy, 6 weeks their Bellys are only so big...and that's what worries me....he goes like 4 hours with out eating and then eats 8 oz...except at night cuz he sleeps pretty good...don't know if I should start adding rice to his milk and seeing if that helps him lower the ounces...

You can ask a doctor but my son drank 6oz very frequently and started off drinking 4ozs! My sons doctor said that the baby will tell you when they're full and if they "over ate" they would spit up or be extremely fussy. There truly is no set amount for a child to eat

My son still eats like a pig. He never gets full, ever. Unless he's teething, then he doesn't eat.

@emaleejoy, right I know that! But there stomach is still only so big at 6 weeks...he should not be able to fit a whole bottle of milk in there and they say you can start them on rice in milk at 6 weeks so thinking I'll try that and they Said it'll help them sleep longer at night too and he only gets up once a night right now so it'd be perfect if it helped him sleep through the night!

I'd get your sons peds recommendation. My sons doctor told us to never do rice in a bottle (no clue why) and also we weren't supposed to start until he was 6 months so I'd ask. He's probably fine.

@emaleejoy, she already recommended it awhile ago cuz he was eating so much he would throw up all the time and said it heavier...every doctor has their different opinions! That and my baby is lactose intolerant so that was another reason she said to try it cuz he would puke up my breast milk to even when I gave up dairy :/ just gave it an few more days and he calmed down and now he's eating more like he did doesn't seem satisfied eats like 20x more and still doesn't seem satisfied but doesn't spit it up! It's so weird and confusing! Lol it's like trying to follow your instincts but scared too you know?

And your sure it's lactose intolerance and not reflux? My son has both and usually reflux babies eat more to soothe their tummies!

And some babies don't spit up with reflux!

@emaleejoy, 100% positive lol we had him tested cuz he was breaking out badly at one point in time and I ate a ton of dairy and they checked that and nope no acid reflux just lactose intolerant which can cause acid reflux cuz it upsets their belly but it's not that he's fussy cuz he's not like a fussy baby what so ever he just does weird things that tell me he's hungry and will keep trying to eat at my arms and shoulders till I feed him! Like he won't even take a pacifier just his bottle cuz he recognizes a bottle already he's just a weird difficult little boy lol
