I guess it's my time to deal with bs..I pulled the carpets up in the new house that I was renting because it was filthy and had terrible pet odors. now the leasing office is claims it was brand new and they want to sue...smh it's always something

Did you have to get their approval first though?/: it sucks but when you rent there are so many rules and typically you have to ask them first since you don't own it!

that does suck. I can't understand them wanting to sue. I manage apartments, and wouldn't go that course. I would ask to see the carpet you pulled up (pet stains will show on the back and padding; odors won't show, but will still linger) if my tenant was right, we would replace it and if not, we require tenant to pay for recarpetting plus a 30% service charge over the cost.

Did you ask first though? The carpet I have in my apartment is cheap and is starting to have a weird odor, I asked my landlord about redoing the floors and we're going half on it.

did you ask first? you could've rented a carpet cleaner which would've taken away any oder and whatnot. or if you asked/complained and the landlord did nothing about it then you have the right to do that.
