Prepare yourself for the pain. try to psych yourself out about it so it will be as bad as you think it will be or better than you thought. If you have access to water labor I would do it. It felt the best when I was in the water. I would look into getting a Doula. They are awesome at helping you plan and talking make sure the doctor and nurses do what you want and planned. Also go in and pretend like an epidural does not exist. I found a great article that helped me. I will try to find it and give you the link. It does have a lot of profanity and as a Christian it made me feel a bit awkward, but it still helped.

I honestly didn't say anything mean to anyone unless you count me screaming for my (super sweet) nurse to get her hands out of me because it hurt for her to check my progess.

just realize that natural birth is all worth it in the end! and the pain does go away! I went through 26 hours of labor with no pain medication whatsoever before ending up having a c-section for failure to progress. getting through those 26 hours was a little difficult, but totally worth it to me. have a good support system behind you if you can, because I couldn't have done it without my husband and mother there. every contraction (every 2-3 minutes), my family was right there telling me that I was doing a good job and reminding me that I was bringing home my precious prince after it was all over! helped so much even though I ended up having the c-section

@ginnalynn, were you given the option for a c section earlier? did you wait until absolutely necessary? just curious in case I am in a similar situation

I wasn't given the option until right before they wanted me to get it. my water had been broken for over 26 hours, so it increases the risk of infection at that point so I basically had to get one or risk my son's health. I didn't want one, but I wasn't going to purposely risk my son's life

I used hypnobirthing, it really helped a lot. You want to make sure you learn how to breathe through contractions and the actual birth, use visualization and relaxation techniques. I got a book and then watched vids on YouTube
