Baby is covered under your insurance for 3 months I believe. So you can after. But it's just easier to do it before.

What I did was I got my insurance and I told them I was pregnant. And I wanted my daughter on it when she was born. When she was born, they were notified and sent me her insurance card

Depends on the state, I believe. But I know here in Florida, you need to call your insurance after the baby is born so they can be added to the policy immediately, and they will also be issued a card.
