Saw the Neonatal development team today. Baby Richi's corrected age is 2 months 8 days, and that's what she wants me to refer to in terms of his age for everything. This corrected age stuff is all new to me, the first I've heard of it/ dealt with it, anyways. He seems to be hitting all milestones for a 2 month old baby and is even doing things that a 4 month old baby would do. He does need physical therapy because the muscles in his neck are not growing the same. They aren't symmetrical and it's causing his head to pull to the right side. It's also what's causing him to sleep on the right side of his head so much. He may or may not need a helmet, we will see what happens after about a month of the PT. He will have two 30 minute PT sessions at literally the best therapy practice for the torticulis (sp?) he has in the area. It's quite a drive for me (over an hour, two total) but its worth it! Anything for my baby. We will need to follow up with the neonatal development team in 4 months, the day before my husband's birthday. She gave me some exercises to do with his legs and feet at home at every diaper change, and taught me some tricks to use to get him to enjoy tummy time a bit more. They want me to try yummy time at least 3 times a day now. I also have to work with laying him on his side during the day and I know he is going to hate it. He HATES laying on his side...but it's important for his head to reshape. She said the fact that he still needs to be swaddled at 4 months, 2 mos corrected, is perfectly fine. When he's 6 months actual age, she wants me to begin weaning him from that. Hmm, what else....Oh, I can't begin solids (fruits and veggies) until 8 months actual, 6 months corrected for him. And she thinks he may have some sensory things going on that he may or may not grow out of in terms of the screaming when he eats if I sing or talk to him. She will be working with me until he is 3 years old to monitor his development and ensure that there is no developmental or learning delay, and also rule out early onset autism disorders. So, all in all, we had a productive first appt. And my baby guy is doing pretty fantastic!
