my daughter is two weeks old today & has lost a pound from her birth weight. I need advice & encouragement because this is not what I wanted to happen. she's supposed to be my chunky baby 😔

It's normal for all babies to lose weight, but that seems like a lot of weight to lose. If you're breastfeeding you'll have to put baby to breast more. Actually either way, breastfed or formula fed you'll have to wake baby up on a schedule to make sure she's eating.

For my smallest my specialist suggested breastfeeding then an ounce or two of formula.

I'm feeding her every two hours and I am breastfeeding. At first she was just snacking and not feeding for very long. I had troubles getting her to stay latched on so I had to start using a nipple shield. Now I'm feeding and pumping and trying to use a bottle with my breast milk a couple times a day just to make sure she's actually eating so I can see it. It's very difficult and it makes me feel like a horrible mom. She never screams or acts like she is starving but I cry knowing that a pound is a tremendous amount for a newborn @kimberlyyyy_the-preemie-mom @twinmama_navywife

Don't feel like a horrible mom!! It's sounds like you're doing a great job!! Keep it up and hopefully she'll be packing on the pounds. Around 2 weeks old is when babies start gaining again, so there should be some gains coming up soon. What does your pediatrician say about it?

Her pediatrician doesn't understand why she isn't gaining because of how often I'm offering food and he said she is very healthy, awake and alert, he can tell she's not starving. We just keep going in for weight checks

I start to feed and they always come off, they have their times they will latch and stay there but it's frustrating but remember they can tell when you're tensing up. But I would start feeding them, they would fall asleep, I would burp them and then try and feed them again making sure they get their fill, then if they're still acting like they're hungry I would give them formula. Don't give up. I know it can be a pain I still have issues even with specialist help. It'll take some time. She did tell me watch their actions. They start with smacking their lips, then fussing a bit, sucking on their hands.. Never let it get too far (unless you're asleep and can't catch it) once you see early signs of hunger feed her. The less they are "hangry" the easier it may be.

Sorry, I guess I was typing when you talked about the pediatrician. As long as the doctor is aware of what's going on and you're continuously feeding baby I saw don't stress about it, keep doing what you're doing and pretty soon you'll see some weight gain.

Thank you @twinmama_navywife that helps a lot and I will try to catch those early signs

It's made it a lot easier for me, especially with two. They tend to be a lot less fussy when I feed them.
