what kind of detergent are you using? It could be because of that if it has perfumes in it.

Looks like allergic reaction. I would call his doctor if they have after hours number or take him to the ER. Have you checked his temp?

Maybe try change the detergent. we use All Free and Clear and never have had a problem with it. It doesn't smell at all its just soap.
