Have you looked at shared parental leave? When he can take some of your maternity leave and you can go back and earn your salary while he gets "maternity" pay

There's a possibility that my job won't exist after i start mat leave. I'm a nanny n my boss is not too keen on me bringing baby to work so there would be no point in looking at shared parental leave unfortunately.

I will have to look for a new job while on mat leave that allows me to bring baby,we don't have anyone to help out so will need to bring baby with me.

@missy84, im self employed and wont be getting much help money wise so I've been putting money away each week and paying a bit extra on bills to try and get in front.. I've named it my 'keep mummy afloat fund' 😁 were just being careful now only spending what we really need to and will continue to be once lil man is here x

I brought what I could when I was getting full pay and then was just careful till I had more money last time. I bulk bought nappies in 2 sizes and everything I needed for the first 9 months.

you might be able to top up your maternity pay with child tax / working tax credits, depending upon your financial circumstances @missy84

I'm not sure how accurate it is. If not possibly give the tax credits line a call and they can do an assessment for you. I've done that in the past. Not sure of the number...Maybe Google for it? I think it starts 03

Google benefit calculator. sometimes you get things like housing benefit even if you're both earning. even if it's only £10pw on certain benefits it adds up. you have to fill it out with your mat pay and pretend baby is here.
