Morning ladies, what's people's opinions on taking anti depressants while pregnant? I was on them before I found out but when I found out I stopped taking them! I'm starting to feel like I seriously need them...😓😓😓

If your doctor says you need them - then you need them and should take them! Did they suggest you make a break for 8 months?

It's a personal decision. Depending what anti depressant you are taking there will be different advice on the safety/risk ratio on taking that medication within different trimesters. There are a few that are seen to be safe, I'm the respect that there is little evidence that they have caused previous harm. It's really important that you weigh up this risk with the risk of you becoming quite unwell jeopardising your happiness and the care and bonding that baby needs to. There's always other options such as CBT which are advised by NICE as a national treatment of choice if you decide to stop taking anti D. Message me if needs. I'm currently studying perinatal depression as we speak!

I was on an anti depressant and an antipsychotic up until 21 weeks. (Am bipolar). Then my psychiatrist took me off them, well presented me with the evidence of how they affect baby and I chose to come off them due to those particular meds being seen as unsafe for baby from then on. I'm due to go back on them after baby is born and not breastfeed. I know I made the right decision but it has been hard at times. But am on the homeward stretch now, so won't be long before I'm back on them and hopefully feeling good again x
