Question for breastfeeding moms: was your colostrum alone enough to feed baby before your milk came in, or did you have to supplement?

As long as you're breastfeeding as often as baby needs (which is basically all the time when they're newborns) they should be content on colostrum alone.

I did formula and breastfeeding. The longer the baby feeds the more your milk builds up. It takes time

@kimberlyyyy_the-preemie-mom thank you! I was a bit worried that maybe I would need to supplement a little bit for the first few days because I would really like to do only breastfeeding/pumping. My sister in law didn't produce nearly enough and now I think they just do formula.

I had a lot of issues breastfeeding my first born, which is why I didn't get more than 2 weeks into it before giving up. I thought that I didn't produce enough but I wasn't very educated on it. If you continuously nurse (which I will admit it sucks at first) baby will help jump start your milk production. You should be okay. Just pay attention to baby- if baby wants to sleep all the time you'll have to wake them up to feed them. You have to be berth dedicated to it, but I promise it gets easier as time goes on. My second son was born at 29 weeks so our breastfeeding journey isn't the same as the traditional route, but we've done 7 months of actual breastfeeding (first 1 1/2-2 months involved him being fed by a feeding tube and doing practice nursing), but once he started actual breastfeeding he caught on super quick. Just make sure you stay hydrated- breastmilk is mostly water so make sure you're drinking enough water, and try to cut out coffees or other caffeinated drinks. You should be okay though. Let me know if you need any more help. =]]

Mine was enough. I started pumping about 4 days after having my baby too which really helped my milk come in.

Yes it was enough. When babies are born their stomach is only the size of a marble
