After more then 24 hours of labor, a very stressful labor at that, and after biting my fiancé and cursing my head out. My cousin knew something wasn't right with me and that I wasn't going to be able to have the water birth I so desperately wanted. My body was shutting down from the amount of pain/ exhaustion I was in and I knew I wouldn't have any strength to push him out when the time came. with a simple look and a small wave of my hand she ordered everyone to "get their shit together" and head to the hospital.
It was pouring rain and some how by a medical we made it to the car and hospital. After waiting almost 4 hours I was given an epidural (which didn't eliminate all of the pain but did help) and then was made to wait 3 more hours or so to be aloud to push. which pissed off my midwife even more because the baby was ready to come out and the doctors were making me wait. the medicine was starting to wear off and the contractions were getting more intense and painful. I started to push as the doctors took there fucking time to get ready and my midwife said if you need to keep pushing you push. Within 10-15 min what had kept us together for 9 months was finally severed, my baby was no longer connected to me, he now belonged to the outside world.
He was immediately given to me and I started to cry feeling accomplished and in awe by what my body created and how it paved the was for his departure of his first home. Thanks to my cousin I have the beautiful pictures of my birth and even got to see him coming out via a mirror that was placed behind the doctor. as the doctor was stitching me up the baby was checked and then the concerns started. "he's breathing to fast we want to take him to the Nursery to run further test." I couldn't be separated from him not after that labor and finally meeting him. How could I just let him go??? I knew if something was wrong I could fix it because he came from me. so he stayed with me the first night and the second. But then at 4 a.m. they came and took him from me.
I don't know how to explain how I felt at that moment. I felt like someone ripped my heart out. for those who have ever had their first deep heart brake imagine that times infinity. It was gut wrenching. I was distraught and in disbelief that something was wrong with him and at the simple fact that could NOT fix him. the doctors explained that he had extremely high CRP levels which is inflammation, 33 to be exact and the doctors wanted a 5 which was considered normal. So they started antibiotics and he had to stay for a total of 10 days. the longest 10 days of my life. I did not leave his side in those 10 days.
I give thanks to my cousin for never leaving my side during my extremely long labor, and never having left my side during those 10 days, even while being sick she found the strength in her to keep me going for my sons sake. I give thanks for those who came to visit my son and I when they could. And to my fiancé who with a heavy heart had to go back to work but would make an effort to see his son at night before having to wake up at 4 am to go back to work the next day.
When it was all said and done, he got better and was finally discharged, i felt like i could breathe easier knowing that my son was finally where he belonged, with me.
