I'm due to go on maternity leave in a few weeks and I've been questioning wether I want to go back…

I'm due to go on maternity leave in a few weeks and I've been questioning wether I want to go back to work after. I've kept my options open and will do so until halfway through maternity then I'll make my decision. I currently live with my partner and his mum and dad. If I wasn't to return to work, does anyone know what sort of help I could recieve and HOW i would go abojt speaking to someone to help me work it all out. I'm thinking of my child as preferably I don't want to have to be asking people to look after him while I work and would prefer to be off work until he's older enough for nursery then I could go back. No bashing please:) ps. My partner works full time. Thanks x

if you dont go back u will owe maternity back to the company? @syrennajade so id decide before hand. but u will get working tax for ur partner working and the 20 a week child benefit?

if your claiming for your self and child than u will defo get some benefits but if u do it as a couple than they may help with a little bit not much..... and depends on what your maternity rules are u may have to pay back but I'm getting statutory pay so I don't have to pay back as it's what government provide

I won't be returning to work after my maternity has finished. I was put on the sick and started maternity from them because of work issues. So I left on bad terms. I'm still classed as an employee but when my maternity is due to finish my notice will be handed in. I receive maternity allowance though, so don't have to worry about repaying it back as it's from the government not work. My partner works full time and I've looked into money and benefits to help. If you Google benefit calculator and put your details and partners details In it gives you a rough estimate of what money you can have. (: hope that helps. Xx

I've never heard of having to pay back maternity pay if you dont go back? is this new? unless your partner earns more than £40000 a year you will be entitled to tax credits possibly working tax credits( awarded to your partner) and child benefit. xxx

some people have mentioned paying back maternity money to me but apparently that's not statutory or the grant. it's if the company has paid you whilst on maternity if not then you don't need to worry about it x

Depending on your contract and employer @tam77 if you get smp then don't want to return back to work some make you pay a percentage back. It's stupid really. And I think you can call them also or citizens advice can help with finances and benefits if thats any more help @syrennajade 😊 I think they are all confusing too to be honest xx
