i have a question.. so my sister in laws dog had puppies theyre about 5-6 weeks old. and my mother in las dog(shes an old chihuauah 4 years old) o caught her 2 weeks ago trying to snap at the puppies so we covered the gate with a sheet and a towel so she wont try and bite them. well today my brother in law went in the backyard to feed them and he saw his moms dog snatched the puppy and ate it ! why do dogs do this? the mommy dog hasnt ate her puppies and stopped feeding them.. ever since they were born the mom refused to feed her babies and we would have to force her..

this is the 1st time she had puppies i caught not the momma dog but my mother in laws dog eating one of them. is there a reason why dogs do this? :/ @babyrossmommy

you can start trying to find them a home so they won't be around ur MILs dog. I got rid of one of mine at 3 weeks, I started them all on wet dry puppy food, & I found them all homes by 6 weeks!

really? its like ever since my sister in laws dog had her puppies my mother in laws dog would lay right next to the gate and stare at them like they are something to eat.. but yeah its really sad :( @babyrossmommy @ktwins188

I'd say yes. the chihuahua is jealous & she will try to kill another one if she gets the chance. I had 8 & they were literally driving the momma, daddy & me insane. lol I had them all in the same pen because I live in town & had no where else to put them. so I had to find them homes as soon as I could. if I were u, I'd get puppy food tomorrow, mix it with warm water & let it set for about an hour until it got smushy. they should eat it. I started mine on this early, like I said one of them left his mom at 3 weeks, & he is 8 weeks now & doing good. big & healthy!

I found 2 others a home at 5 weeks, the rest I found homes for them at 6 weeks. just make sure they can all eat the smushy puppy food & they will be fine.

I used to breed dogs and sometimes the mama just goes nuts... it's some weird post partum reaction usually when the mom senses the babies are in danger or they are not capable of survival on their own.
