Okay so baby has had a tiny bit of cradle cap for awhile now, I've been putting coconut oil on it almost everyday. I haven't been rinsing it off, just letting it sit and giving him his bath at night. Am I doing something wrong? Because it just will not go away. I just tried another "remedy" which was to use olive oil and let it sit 15 min, then brush the flakes out and wash baby's head. I feel like that made it worse, honestly.

Use a comb or brush after you put the oil on to scrape it off. It's build up on the scalp

oil is the wrong thing to do. Cradle cap is caused by oil buildup. You need a cradle cap shampoo and let the scalp dry and just comb the crusting off until it goes away

I did but I didn't brush very hard, should I be? @edomke

I just put a little baby oil on a baby brush and scrubbed in a circular motion. You have to apply some pressure but just barley. I thought it would never come off but that worked like a charm and now it's completely gone

Would coconut oil work as well as baby oil? That's all I've got at the moment @mommy_faith

Yes it would😊 it's clogged pores with dry skin attached to it. So adding moisture to it and scrubbing it will do the trick and then just wash his hair after with gentle soap, I use like a pea sized drop. If it's not scrubbing away it's because you are doing it hard enough. It shouldn't hurt him what so ever! My son just thought it was annoying lol

Cradle cap is caused by overproduction of oil in the follicles. Adding more oil can make it worse!

Just repeating what my pediatrician said and I did what she said to do and now it's gone😊 after brushing with the oil (smallest drop ever) I rinsed the brush with water and scrubbed again. Came off after two times of doing that and hasn't returned

not sure if it's mentioned already but use the coconut oil when giving him a bath. let it sit for few minutes then use a fine tooth baby comb and comb in the opposite direction of the hair growth. you will see some hair come out in the comb. don't freak out! it's normal. lol be sure to rinse his head really well after. you may have to wash hsi hair twice as coconut oil can be stubborn to get out. but I'd say do that maybe once a week. it will slowly dissappear on its own too, but this will help loosen up the scales.
