I get it, Doctors went to school for this type of stuff, but a parent knows their child better than anyone else. What I don't understand is, why don't they ever listen to our concerns about our children? SMH. My child's doctor refuses to test him for ADHD until he starts to fail in school(starts school in August), given our family history(My brother has ADHD so bad it was diagnosed at age 2, and my husband, which is his father has also been diagnosed with ADHD). I'm not looking for medicine for him, but I do what to take the steps needed like behavioral therapy, ect, before he does start school and it becomes a problem holding him back.

I have adhd as does my husband just keep doing what you're doing with your child and be on him constantly as you teach him to focus like reading or whatever he likes. The sooner you start you won't have any problems about him failing school but it will be hard because of the school settings

@deafmama16, well that's what I'm saying, I want to start this stuff now, but the proper way, because I'm still not that educated on ADHD, or even how to handle it the correct way without medication, and I want it to be done before he starts school so that they can know what's going on and what steps to help him during the school day instead of waiting for him to fail when it could all be prevented.

@karnamarie, 👏👏 exactly!!!!! I am around him day and night, I know his every move and he is not the normal 4(almost 5)year old. he literally acts the same way as my husband and my brother and he even says himself whenever he does something that he can't control it, his body makes him.

If he does have it mama it's gonna happen but all you can do is teach him early on school stuff and be patience. Unexpected things happen with ADHD but I can tell you that most medications will make it worse and it will change him emotionally @kelseys

@deafmama16, medicine is out of the question. my mom used it with my brother and I didn't see a difference in how hyper he was until he smoked weed and that barely helped. my mil didn't do medicine with my husband because I guess in Mexico they don't believe in meds, but more natural stuff. I just want him to get the help he needs so that he can focus while he's in school.

The only help is through you as a mother and his father who also has it. There is special education but it would barely help but putting him in small classes will help so he won't lose focus hmmm 🤔🤔🤔 it won't be too much for him like bigger classes and he would get the attention he needs @kelseys

Unless your insurance requires a referral, you could just take him to a neuro psych for eval. Our doctor said not to consider meds unless grades were suffering but she had no problem doing the eval. We went straight to a specialist and the major benefit to us was getting accommodations in the classroom like a fidget item, longer time for tests, etc.
