Any moms had to sign up for disability to get paid while on maternity leave ? If so how long did it…

my job offers short term disability and pays you 60% of your average pay rate. However, most places need you to sign up before you know you're pregnant otherwise it counts as a pre existing condition. I tried signing up last month and they said no.

In NJ, you sign up on the first day of your maternity leave. I'm high risk, so I'm out of work for 4 months, but I think the normal short term disability for maternity is 6 weeks...unless you get a c section, then it's a little longer. I'm not sure about the pay though.

Also, it takes at least 2 weeks for them to process your application.

oh ok then definitely look into it. I wish i was able. Now I'm just hoping to save up enough to take care of the bills so i can stay home for at least like 6 months to a yr.

@jlynn, it's annoying they make you wait til you stop working then prolly end up taking long to start your disability money smh

Delaware don't allow you to get on disability, they state pregnancy is a choice. They denied my sister. Her doctor literally had to tell them because she drives a school bus that her nerve damage and the way the baby was sitting was making it hard to sit for long periods of time. They gave her 136.00 a month lol

@nwhite, that's sad . Nj they give it to you 4 weeks before baby and 6 weeks after paid

Wow! That's nice. Now I have shot term and long term through my job if I decided I am going to take leave but probably not. I will enjoy my 6 weeks afterwards.
