I've had 4 it's not as bad as some people make it because once you hit about 5 cm you can get the epidural now I will say that the pain without the epidural is not so fun but if you plan to get it you'll be fine

I got my epidural 3cm dilated and honestly great experience even tho it took forever for him to come when I finally had to push it took me only 20 minutes of pushing and I felt no pain whatsoever.

with my twins, I didnt even know I was in labor. I luckily had an appt that day and was already dilated to a 5 and sent to the hospital. I had to get an epidural in case of an emergency csection.. I think I was dilated to a 7 when I got it. I felt a little pressure in my back but still not bad.. I couldnt even tell when I was contracting. I pushed out one baby then it took 6 mins to push out the other. every person/pregnabxy is different! So hoping this time around is as easy as the first.

I was in labor for 65 hours. the plan was to go all natural. which I did for about 55 hours. once I got to 9 cm my body just stopped and I was stuck at 9 for 6 hours. at that point I was running on no food or sleep so I gave in and got the epidural so that I could rest and be ready to push when the time came. my contractions without the epidural was the most painful thing I've ever felt. I found some breathing techniques that worked for me and I rolled on a yoga ball and played nature sounds on Pandora to get me thru it. and my mom and hubby took turns holding onto me and helping me walk around and sway my hips and talking me thru each contraction. once I finally got the epidural I didn't even know when I was having contractions. in proud of myself for going natural as long as I could but I'm also glad I got the epidural when I did bc I ended up pushing for 5 hours, they needed to use forceps to get him out and I tore all the way to my rectum and had to have a ton of stitches. (didn't feel any of it thanks to the epidural)

both pregnancies were very painful for me. I didn't go into hospital with my first until I was 8cm because I slept thru most of it but once getting to hospital and having to move around I couldn't really Handel it so I got the epidural and it worked pretty instantly. same thing with this pregnancy I was in hospital at 3.5 cm contractions every 5 min but they sent me home I got down the street turned around because my contractions were so bad I couldn't breathe or move and they checked I was 6cm and I got the epidural again and this time the pain without it was definitely 10 times worse so the epidural was amazing for me both times.. it also helps you relax enough to get a little nap in which is good too .

I got no epidural and the pain was effing terrible but worth it. Like I want to go natural with all my kids. No long term back pain and I was able to get up and move around literally right after my son was born

As soon as that baby comes out the pain is gone

Me personally it's not worth getting the epidural unless your labor is really long

I did it with no epidural or pain medicine at all and I will say that it was the best decision I ever made! Everyone handles pain differently and I have a higher pain tolerance for pain. My contractions weren't so bad, just have to take them one at a time and find something that helps you get through them. The worst part for me was the pressure from pushing.....that was insane but doesn't last too long. (at least for me) and because I didn't have the epidural I was able to get up and move around right after I had her. @ang20

iheard in Japan or China one of the 2 lol they only have 1 hospital that offers epidurals to patients because they feel like forcing women to feel the pain will prevent then from reproducing quickly

I had an epidural because I have such a low pain threshold and it was amazing and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I had no complications or issues. I still could feel the pressure and knew when it was time to push and I don't have any postpartum issues from it. The pain was like the worst cramps you can imagine times 50

@edomke, I agree 100% I had 2 natural labors and 1 with the epidural. it was nice to have the pain relieved but I still am going to try natural again. The epidural seemed to slow things down a lot! my natural labors were 7 hrs total and 2 and 1/2 hrs total. and the labor with the epidural was 18 hrs!!

I know for sure it took a lot longer to push. it's hard when you can't feel anything. The pain is very motivating!! As far as slowing everything down I'm not sure if it's a proven fact but it definitely seemed like that was the case and I've heard that from others as well. @edomke
