Now that you're a mom or mom-to-be, doesn't it seem like you're mom was right all along? If you had a mom like mine, she lectured you and always tried to teach you about children, parenting and life in general. Sometimes it sounded crazy at the time, and sometimes you were upset and crying. But now as a mom myself, I appreciate her love, her rules and for being there for our family.

We asked moms in the mom.life community to share their stores, and here are 18 things they realize now that their mom was so right about.

➡️You’ll understand when you’re a mom

💬Well I've turned into my mom!! lol so I'm going to say she was right about everything ;)

Yes, very true! I know all sorts of things now that I absolutely won't do. Well, hugs to you for getting through that.

💬My mom was absolutely right about everything, but one thing especially when we would argue she would tell me "you'll know what it's like when you're a mother" and gosh was she right a mother's love is so deep. I definitely appreciate her way more now that I've felt and gone through what she has

➡️Parenting is lots of work

💬How much work it is. and how unconditionally I would love him.

➡️Extraordinary unconditional love for your child

💬How they just want you to stay little forever and how much love you could possibly have for such a tiny human. How they really do worry and want the best for you and want you to have everything they never had and when you are older how much they just want to spend time with you and be a part of your life. I'm almost a mommy and haven't met my tiny human yet but these are things that already go through my mind and I think of my mom and finally understand.

➡️Be your child’s safe person

💬She was right about being a mother is 50/50. 50% parenting/motherhood 50% being their friend/safe person.... and she told me one day I would understand that when my child goes through the experiential stage (pot, drinking, etc.) to do it with them show them its not as cool as they think and that they can trust you instead of hiding it and getting in trouble, to do it in the safety of your own home if your curious enough to try it.

➡️Boys

💬My mom was right when it came to boys. She said the right one will love you for you and wait/stick around for whatever you throw their way. She also used to tell me that my daddy wasn't a glass maker and I'm not made of glass when I would stand in the way.

➡️Cussing isn’t cool

💬When I became a teenager I use to cuss a lot, and she would tell me that if I couldn't learn to use the cuss words in the correct context then to stop cussing cause it would make me look ignorant instead of cool.

➡️Worrying

💬Especially about always worrying about your kids. No matter their age you will always feel like you want to protect them from anything and everything and it hurts your heart to know you can't.

➡️Don’t blink

💬Mom was right about so many things. Most of all she was right about never blinking, because that baby grows up faster than you can imagine, and if you blink you will miss it all.

➡️Fake friends

💬My mom was right about a lot and especially about a few of my friends that I grew up with - that lady can spot a fake friend from a mile away 😅

➡️Strict rules

💬Oh yes! My mom was definitely right about a lot of things! I'm glad she's not here at the moment because I'd have to tell her she was right! Lol! My mom raised my older brother and I! It was just the four of us. My mom, my dad, and my big brother, and me. It's kinda hard to describe but my mom didn't have her mother their taking care of her. My mom had to take care of her mother. So she wanted to raise her kids definitely. And she did. She had rules and if you broke those rules you got in trouble. And my mom only spanked me a total of 3 times growing up. But I was and still am the type of kid/person that all she had to do was raise her voice and I cried or she stomped her feet and I cried because I thought I was in trouble. But I I was because she gave us time outs and took the thing or toy that meant the most to us and she didn't keep it forever but it felt like it. And then when our time out was over she'd come to us and talk real nice and explain why we got in trouble and had us repeat it back so she knew we were listening and that we knew what we did. My mom had us on a schedule too! When we were in school. She'd come in and wake us up. Withe it was a touch or a rub on my back. And with my brother she had to talk kinda loud so he'd wake up. But then we ate breakfast and got dressed and went to school. When we got home it was homework first. Then we ate, took showers and laid out our clothes for the next day. Then if we got that done we could play or watch tv but only if we got that done first. She was always giving us hug and telling us she loves us. And telling us that we were good kids. Even if did something we weren't supposed to she still told us we were good kids and she loved us. She always played games with us. My mom was always involved with us kids. My dad worked a lot so we could have things. But I also love my mom because she had rules and I did get mad at her but I am glad she did all that she did! Thanks mom! :)

➡️Home-cooking🍗🍲

💬Oh and she always cooked a good home cooked meal! Get potatoes and peel them and cut them up and mash them up! That's just how she cooked. She never followed a recipe just went from what she had. I can't think of anything else right now but if I do, I'll add it! :) God, thank you so much for giving me my Mother!

➡️Treating your mom the way you want your kids to treat you

💬The way you treat your mom is the same way your kids are going to treat you is one thing my MOM taught me to realize lol

💬My mom said what u do to ur mother or parents it will be done to u lol..she was right but I expected it to happen with my kids.

💬Remember everything you put me thru the twins are gonna do it 10x worst.

➡️Spend time with your children

💬Devoting/spending time with kids is so important. Boy did she LIVE that principle. I want to do the same thing. :)

➡️Crying

💬Don't cry in front the kids. They feel it.

💬My mom was right about having to sit down and cry with your child every once in awhile. sometimes you just need a good cry. lmfao

➡️Picking your battles

💬My mama used to tell me sometimes there just is no reasoning with a child. Pick your battles. Too true.

➡️Colic and the newborn stage

💬My mom was right that colic feels like it lasts years while it's happening, but once you're out, you realize it was only a few weeks!

➡️Parents make mistakes and it’s okay

💬My mother had a favorite slogan and that was, "Parenting doesn't come with instructions.” She reminded me of that and said parents make mistakes as well. As a mom its okay to admit your mistakes and apologize! She also said children are way smarter then you think. They catch on quick. So if you don't want your child ruining your things show them how to use it.

💬That I don't know it all😂😂 I pretty much knew NOTHING when it came to being pregnant and what it takes to have a baby (not money wise just like materialistic items) I thought she could sit in a chair for the bath 😂I promise I'm not stupid😳

➡️Kids will never listen

💬My mom was right about that your kids will never listen to you lol. My mother said i was always getting into some kind of trouble lol. She said time-outs where not my thing. I told her that one day my kids will follow the rules and never misbehave. And well with 5 kids. Sometimes its hard too even get one kid to listen lol😜
