how does disability work in California.. I read it says apply 7 weeks before you stop working but…

Your doc probably has good experience from other patients. I would follow their advice.

Your doctor and you can put that you wont start the disabilty date untill 36 weeks... and still send it in

My doctor doesnt start disability to 36 weeks but because I have restrictions had to go out 34 weeks...And Im going to recieve payment from 35 weeks on (7 day waiting period). There's a section on the paperwork that says when did your disability start so technically you can turn it in earlier just to get the process going and they won't start the payment until the day you both put. It takes 14 business days to process so keep that in mind as well... But you recieve back pay. Im waiting on my card now.

You'll have to ask them.Its whatever system your doctor uses. Online is so much quicker. .. my doctors office is so money hungry .. they only do the paper form and charged for it(and everything else ) . If you do plan on working till 36 weeks then you'll have no issues for online but if they do the paper I will try to get the paperwork filled out now and then at least put the date for 36 weeks so you can get the ball rolling

Yes because the lady who did the paperwork only came in on certain days I was 35 weeks the last week in April. My doctor finished filling it out by the 6th of May .(lazy) and then it's 14 business days to process. Once they finish procesing Bank of America. issues you a card you have to wait for it like a debit card like 5 to 10 business days. Mine should be here Tuesday. ...they are giving me back pay 1300 (everyones is different based on 60% of your wages) And you get paid every 14 days. Don't be discouraged by my wait time, everyone's is different. Had it been online it would of been quicker. Just keep in mind once they finish processing it and it goes to Bank of America for them to issue your card it's out of their hands you have to wait for that card. EDD is it still in control of the funds but the actual card is through Bank of America.

@meli2890, online and on the paper form it asks you when do you want the disability date to start so if you plan on going out of work at 36 weeks then you'll put that date...

I filed paper work didn't do online and I got my first payment in 3 weeks they will also back pay you not including the first 7 days. If you do it online it cuts the time by 7 days my doctor said. You cannot be working if you file tho
