Figuring out what's in your budget, then saving at least 20%, sometimes they require 30% of the houses price as a down payment. Getting a preapproval from a bank and then you can decide if you want to look on your own or hire a realtor.

@sarinunez My mother in law law said they require a couple thousand down, because if you get on for 140000. The payments will run 501, and there is usually some kind of interest rate on at least a 30 year mortage. Then if you take at least 20%, your down payment will be 28000. Then when you add the interest rate, to a 30 year mortage. Your technical payments would 401 a month, which is 100 less then what they said the payments was.

Sorry It's not making sense to me at all, amd we want to look into it too. Just asking your advice.

There are tons of first time home buyer programs that help with up front costs, you want to talk to a mortgage lender and they'll do something called a pre approval, they'll get all of your info, run the numbers and tell you how expensive of a house you qualify for and then you can start looking
