I have been treated terribly and missed them but once I completely got them out of my life and moved on I am happier than I ever was with them.

It takes time.. And it may take longer in your situation. You just can't give up and surround yourself with positive supportive people and it'll help. It was a little easier for me because I had no choice but to get them out of my life. I literally couldn't speak to them.
