Ladies, what's the point of epidural? Some people say it works while pushing some says it don't...…

epidural is not for pain while pushing it is for the pain from contractions to help mom rest before pushing because pushing is a lot of work

don't do it. medicine epidural takes away from the experience and slows the labor down. don't be afraid of the pain your body was built to give life

It all depends on your body, the epidural never really worked on me I could still feel contractions and when I pushed but it did help a little, now a couple days a ago when I had my daughter my epidural didn't work at all! The Doc gave me 2more higher doses of the medicine plus a narcotic and finally right when it was time to push is when it all started working. I didn't feel her coming out so much, what I felt more was the pressure! But she was out in 3 pushes.

yes I was told it helps just a little in it numbs you just a bit down there but you still will feel pressure @mommybump2016

I didn't feel a thing during my birth after an epidural. I couldn't even help push really. it was scary this time around I'm going to try TRY without an epidural. last time I panicked and begged for one shortly after starting. lol

I went through over 40 hours of labor without any meds but when I got to 9 cm my body wouldn't go any further. I was stuck at 9 cm for 6 hours so I gave in and got the epidural and it was heaven. I got to sleep for 3 hours and then had strength to push for 5 hours. I didn't feel a thing. didn't even know my son was coming out except my mom started screaming he's coming !

Yes, he wanted to re due my epidural and uhm no! Lol I went from 5-10cm in a matter of 15ish minutes, the contractions were bad but come to find out she was facing upward and that's why I was in so much pain. But he kept saying let me try something else and finally it worked but it was too late lol..... Now when he put it in my back the first time I felt a very painful pain run down my right leg 😩... I kinda wish I would've just said no to the epidural, I know I could've done it. And I knew it wasn't going to work lol but I still asked for it 😒

its totally up to you, I was dead set against an epidural but having such a long labor I needed it or I wasn't gonna make it any further so I'm very glad I chose to get it when I did. I also tore really bad and needed a crap ton of stitches so I'm glad I didn't have to feel that either

My epidural only worked on my legs which was completely useless and made it harder to push. They replaced it when I needed a C- Section and it worked on half my body so I 100% felt the surgery on my left side. And now I have a constant headache from it. There's pros and cons and I think a lot of people will pressure you into getting it since its the cultural norm. Don't let anybody tell you that you can't handle the pain. You can. Pain is temporary. Being able to care for your baby immediately after birth is amazing.

My sisters epidural stopped working when she was about to push. They had to fix the wires and up the dosage so it didn't kick in on time. She was in a lot of pain. Once it did kick in she felt mostly pressure. After birth though she did get massive headaches and bad backaches.

Mine worked perfectly fine! It was a little harder at pushing just because I couldn't feel anything from my waist down but other than that I've had no other problems afterwards.. Definitely getting it again with my second 😊

an epidural will numb you from the tummy all the way down. if it's working properly you won't feel anything. there are some women who have said they still feel some pressure but even then compared to natural it's waaay better. I've done both. natural and with an epidural. personally I think I might try natural again just because I feel the epidural slowed things down but I couldn't feel a thing when I had it.

it did make pushing more difficult too, it took me almost 30 mins to push out my daughter. with both my boys I pushed like 3 or 4 times and they were out.

It is very painful! more than I've ever experienced in my life but it's worth it :)
