I'm trying to figure out how I want to raise my baby right now and I want to make a plan for myself. I've heard some bad things about CIO but my moms used it on all of my siblings and we turned out fine.
If I were to do it I obviously wouldn't abuse it and leave the baby crying for more than 5 minutes.

I think it's okay if all needs are met and you only let them cry for 5-10 mins and in that time period, stay close so you can check on them. Sometimes they are just tired and crying makes them more tired to just go to sleep. Others have different opinions but that's mine!

When I was in a human development class, they encouraged being attentive to baby's needs and not doing CIO. They said if baby knows you're there for them, then later on they won't be as needy and will know they can have trusting relationships. But my professor also said to use balance and discretion- sometimes CIO is okay.

I do it with my daughter. I'll be in the same room as her but make sure she can't see me after about 20-30 seconds I'll go comfort her. Now if shes crying hard then I go straight for her. She usually cries if she's not in my arms which has to change. This weekend me and my husband will be trying to switch her from sleeping with us to sleeping in her own crib so we'll be using the CIO more than usual. Hopefully we don't cave in to her.

I use it on the baby I babysit, he's 9 months. If he's fed, and changed and crying just for attention then I let him cry it out because that's how he ends up spoiled

I do both. Just make sure their needs are met, but don't feel bad if you cave. They are just a baby and they don't stay small for long.
