no it doesn't help. it makes them feel alienated. my stepson goes and it doesn't help. i was seeing counselors from a very young age and it does more harm than good. kids dont need therapists, they need parents that will talk to them its also not good because when they get older and go to school then it gives kids reasons to make fun of hum/her. kids need to be allowed to be kids, they need parents that will talk to them and whatnot, not someone they dont know making them feel bad for things they have done or bad for what they feel. sorry not directed at you, just a rant. i dealt with therapists and counselors all my life and they hurt me more than helped. @mamamiia28

@sierranichols, perhaps that was your experience. Me and my brother definitely benefited from seeing therapists. I was around 7 When I started and he was around 9. It helped us a lot. Of. Course, we were both abused and he has severe bipolar so we weren't your average kid.

And I loved my psychologist person. It didn't make me feel weird at all. I knew that my parents just wanted to make sure I was doing okay and I got to play while doing it. (Parents didn't know about the abuse when brother and I started going. My brother was very physically abusive towards me for years, but that was all our parents knew about.

@marzuniversal, I'm sorry to hear about your past but good to know u liked receiving help. My sons donor hasn't been around in 4 years due to being an addict and my boyfriend has been in his life for the last 2 years. Now that I'm pregnant and we are moving he is having a really hard time and anger is getting worse at home and at school. Iv tried talking and helping him and he just wants to hurt me too. I can't handle it so I'm going onto the next step

I've been considering it for my 7 year old son. I'm not sure if he's adhd, mildly autistic or if it's just that he is stubborn but he seems to have trouble socializing without getting really upset if he doesn't always win everything also he has a hard time grasping certain concepts that other kids his age have no trouble with. I'm probably going to see what his pediatrician has to say and go from there. The school doesn't think it's a learning disability but it's a private school and they'd have to provide services that they normally don't so I don't trust them to do what's best for the kids.
I hope if you do decide to bring him that it can help him and help you understand what's going on a little better too.

I rather be safe than sorry!! It's easier to change and mold a child at a young age rather when they are older and on their way to jail!
