My OB only delivers at one hospital which is like 45 min away from my house. There two hospitals closer to me but they told me I have to change doctors to deliver there. Does that sound correct? Can't I just show up during labor and they have to take me in?

That sounds correct. I had to do the same thing when I lived in Pittsburgh 12 years ago.

They would take you, but your OB wouldn't be delivering your baby.

Mine is the same way! I don't even think I could make it that far out & there's literally a hospital down the street where I live

they say that but if you go there and your in active labor any hospital takes you.

It's a federal law law called (EMTALA). They will take you, they have to, it just won't be your OB. It'll be whatever OB is on call at that time for that hospital.

I feel so irresponsible I thought I was going to love to Northridge by the time I had the baby. But I'm stuck in San Gabriel Valley for longer. I'm 38 weeks would that make it harder for a ob to accept me into their practice @Erin flaherty818

My doctor only delivers at two hospitals that are both about 30 minutes from where I live. 🙄

Yup that's right. I delivered 45 mins away. But it's not like a baby comes in 30 mins. Took a whole night but that's right.

I know it's scary and you're having some anxiety, but 45 minutes is plenty of time to get to your hospital. I've had 3 babies, so I should be popping them out like pop tarts lol but my fastest delivery was 3 1/2 hours AFTER checkin....not including the 3 hours of contractions before active labor when they could sign me in.
