Why Did My Job Reduce Maternity Leave to Just 6 Weeks?
Welp my job denied my leave! 😤 So basically I can leave a week before I'm due or work up until I deliver but either way I'm only allowed 6 weeks off period. God forbid she gets sick or any other reason I may need more than the six weeks granted, because that's all I get until 12 months later. What makes it worse is I started when the leave was 12 weeks for pregnancy and your parental leave was an additional 4 week for illness or other medical issues with your child. They recently changed the policy to 6 weeks within a 12 month period for any parent including pregnancy! Ugh I'm really upset! I already have to tough it out with a boot on my foot! 😔 Give me strength!!!

Are you FMLA protected? I know they cover up to 12 weeks in a rolling calendar year.

you can still get 12weeks. I was working retail when I was pregnant last year, and theirs is 6weeks as anywhere else, but my doctor was concerned since they worked me a lot, and told me I can get 12weeks, but they don't tell you that. when you have your doctor fill out your leave papers, have them put 12weeks. its still going to be no pay, but you will still have a job to go back to. and I didn't use FMLA since I wasn't working long enough to be covered by them.

@dang_dridri, @owensmommy85 @excitedmom37 I'm not covered unfortunately. The clinic I work for has less than 50 employees so we don't qualify.

@kelseys, I'll see if my doctor will do that since I can't get FMLA that would be a great alternative. At the least I just want 8 weeks to be with my child. This is my first and it's important to me to have that time.

That's horrible!!! Like seriously only 6 weeks with a baby is not enough. I get 12 but 6 of that is unpaid, don't care il rough it. Even 12 is not really enough. Should be mandatory 16 minimum.

@kandice_stedman86, I agree! It's like they don't care or understand the importance of it. I'm sure most of the people that make these rules have children. I know the owners at my job do.
