Has anyone said no to doing the 1 hr glucose test? Is it manditory? Is it a blood test or a urine…

i think its mandatory and its a blood test... they check to see of you have diabetes & ive heard of you dont get it it could harm your baby & affect you... but im really not sure

urine glucose is completely different than blood glucose, because you shouldn't be peeing out a bunch of glucose (that usually means you have a problem with your kidneys). I'm a lab tech and having GD could cause serious birth defects (blindness, jaundice, etc), that's why docs want the glucose test done.

You should get it. It's kinda important cause if you have gestational diabetes an don't know if can cause baby to have problems an become over weight an more. It's best to do it. It's not that bad all you do is drink the sugar thing an hour befor you go in an they draw your blood.

And a urine test you take every time you go in is for protein in the urine

Honestly, nothing a doctor tells you is mandatory. You can say no to anything because it's your body. Although the glucose test is highly RECOMMENDED, you don't have to be forced to get it done

you have the right to decline anything you want. The glucose test is NOT mandatory. Im considering declining this time. I have 3 kids, i always fall my 1hr and then pass my 3hr. Not dealing with that.

And if you don't pass the glucose test the first time, you have to take the 3 hour one which is also mandatory. No one wants to do it, but we all have to

I don't believe it's mandatory, but I highly recommend getting it done. I've seen what GD can do to babies, and it's actually very sad. like I said before, urine glucose and blood glucose levels are way different. I have GD and my urine glucose is always fine, but obviously my blood glucose can get out of normal range

ok thank you all! i dont do blood tests and quit frankly im getting tired of being stuck they never get it and i walk out with huge bruises on my arms and i always pass out. And im out for a good 10-20 min. Thank you all again

@arivera64 im thinking about telling my doctor no. if he wants it done or if he says i need to do it cause im at a high risk it might change, but otherwise i might not do it
