How Does Insurance Work for a Newborn?
Can Someobe explain to me how insurance works for the baby? I'm currently still on my fathers, trying to switch to mass health. Obviously I need insurance for the baby..do I have to wait til she's born/has a social security number??

Yes. Typically, baby is covered under mom for 30/31 days after birth. You have that time to add him/her to your plan. I'm currently going through it now. If they don't have a SSN yet, you can probably inform the insurance of it once you get it. I got my son's SS card in about 2 weeks.

No.. I was on my moms insurance until her job went on strike and she lost medical benefits for the time being so I picked up cdphp under Medicaid and I received my daughters card which is what I use for appointments and stuff for me right now.. It says "unborn1" and my last name.. You have to call within the first month and give them your child's name and info and everything and then you'll receive their card in the mail.

Hi I'm in the same exact position as you. I actually stayed on my dads insurance and enrolled in mass health as my secondary insurance. Then when my son was born I just called and had him added to my mass health as my child

Don't know if it depends on the insurance your dad has but mine has united health and they wouldn't allow us to add my son

@kbogzxo, I'm still under my parents insurance and the baby is going to be able to be added to theirs as well

Yeah so just call mass health then! You actually have to get off your dads insurance to pick a plan anyway
