As a high risk pregnancy, will my doctor do an ultrasound on my first appointment? I already know she is going to send me to a specialist. Can i request one if she doesn't just because I am worried because of my last pregnancy?

@sidanddelos15, I'm not 100% and would think it depends on the ob. But my cousin was high risk with her last pregnancy and had a sono the first visit. I went to the same clinic and have had to wait 3 wks for my sono, not being high risk.

I'm high risk and was referred to another doctor while also going to my regular OB so I have a high risk doctor too. I didn't get an ultrasound the first appointment but after that I got one like every month if not twice a month

@sidanddelos15, I know every state is different . But here in lousiana you get an ultrasound with first appt and then the anatomy one at 20 weeks with a low risk regular pregnant. I had my first appt at 6 weeks because I had two miscarriages back to back. They did an ultrasound and because I have chronic high blood pressure I was sent to a high risk doctor to see me along with my regular ob. The high risk doctor does ultrasounds at every appt and I see him every 4 weeks. Because I'm high risk with gestational diabetes also now at 32 weeks I get weekly ultrasounds to monitor growth.

It depends on your doctor and the pregnancy itself and why you're considered high risk from my understanding. I'm high risk and get an ultrasound every appointment and I have a specialist I got to twice a week and my regular OB I go to every three-four weeks.

@dang_dridri, i have diabetes and high blood pressure. i also had to deliver at 33 weeks because of pre-eclampsia last pregnancy. i had to go to a specialist last pregnancy but i didn't get prenatal care until i was 16 weeks last time. this time i was on the ball.

I have been high risk for most of this pregnancy and have had an US every visit and I go every 3 weeks or so! in my first trimester I went once every two weeks but I'd think it would depend on your doc and etc!

@sidanddelos15, oh ok. See I'm just high risk because I'm having twins, no problems so far and I know they do the ultrasound every time because that's the only they can measure the growth of both twins. I wasn't even sent to my specialist until I hit my 2nd trimester but I started getting prenatal care at 4 weeks, found out about the twins at 8 weeks. So I would bring all that up at the appointment of they don't mention a specialist and see what they say.

@dang_dridri, i know for a fact she will mention it because she was my doctor last time. everyone around me feels like I'm having twins so I'm worried about that.

I am considered high risk because I delivered preterm(34 weeks) I got an ultrasound my first visit. Then I went in every 2 weeks and had an ultrasound done to check my cervix all the way until I hit 26 weeks. I still go every 2 weeks but no more ultrasounds because my cervix was looking good, but if your cervix starts to shorten she would of kept doing them.

I didn't get an ultrasound at my first appointment. all they did was get my medical history and then at 11 weeks I got my first ultrasound

It depends on what's causing you to be high risk. I had gestational diabetes and my cervix was way shorter than its supposed to be. She referred me to a specialist whom I saw once a week but nearing the end of my pregnancy saw her twice a week and saw my regular OB once a week. At the appointments with the specialist I was hooked up to the monitor every time for about 15 minutes then received an ultrasound.

@avamariesmommy, i have diabetes, high blood pressure, and i delivered at 33 weeks because of pre-eclampsia. everyone around me also thinks i may be carrying twins.

Yes then even if she doesn't refer you to a high risk specialist you can ask for a referral but I'm pretty sure you'll be referred somewhere.
