Is it just me that has a hard time finding babies heart beat with a Doppler. It took me ages to find on the first try.. And haven't used it since because it's made me paranoid somethings wrong 😖

Ally of midwives say to not rely on them .they are trained to find them . Try laying flat and putting a pillow under your bum x

I'm only 12+4 and it takes me a matter of minutes to find heartbeat but only because I use a professional Doppler and I'm just a small thing. Your a lot further on than me so maybe its cause your a bit bigger, or maybe your babies lying in an awkward position.Your maybe checking in the wrong place, drink a sugary drink, for example fresh orange then lie down in a quiet room and start from your pubic bone and work your way up covering every inch. Please don't worry. What kind of Doppler you using? xxxx

a Midwife will never recommend getting one because even they struggle finding babies heartbeat and they're trained xx

@tiasohi1, I can see why. I don't think I'll use it again save myself the worry lol. @Kim.m. I might try that, im not exactly slim either lol. I've being the using angelcare mini Doppler I did find the heart beat after ages. But didn't hear no movement just whooshing sounds :P xx

@firsttimemummy21, I regret buying it to be honest. And wish I didn't I've got so many worries going on from using despite the fact I did hear baby xxxx

We were going to get one but decided against it :) going by babies movements is a much better way of knowing if baby is okay and before then I think if anything was wrong you'd definitely know about it because of pain or bleeding xxx
Shona·
Good on you! And I agree, I can feel flutters and pressure where baby is usually lying so that reassures me too. I get light cramping but I've had that all the way through its more like stretching now though xxxx

As much as its lovely to hear your babies heartbeat, we're not trained to find it, and can also pick up the blood flow thru the placenta, as well as our own heartbeat, not just babies. Even midwives have trouble sometimes, but they know the difference between each of the things you can pick up, whereas we don't. At an ultrasound we got to listen to the blood flow thru the placenta, it sounded exactly like a babies heartbeat would. If its causing you concern or worry, don't use it hun. x

I think they a dangerous as you can pick up your heartbeat or the placenta and think all is ok. Or not hear anything as baby am has wriggled further back. If you are concerned in any way call the midwife X

it's because you're not medically trained to find it and don't know where to look. you shouldn't be using one anyway as it
puts unnecessary fear into people when they can't find a heartbeat. no midwife or doctor will recommend you using one
zoeleigh·
Just because midwives and doctors don't recommend using a fetal Doppler, doesn't mean you can't! 😒 God, some right know it alls on here! And your own heartbeat won't be in the 100s so its not difficult to distinguish the difference between yours and the babas. It can be difficult to find his/her heartbeat though. It took me nearly two hours to find it first time round @robotunicorn xx
Shona·
Yeah I used it again today drank some cold water to get baby moving and put a pillow under my hips. And I found it. You can definitely tell the difference it's not hard @zoeleigh xx

Aww amazing! I can understand why some people don't use them but curiosity definitely got the better of me haha. Such a reassuring sound isn't it?! I'm glad you heard it xx
