i need some help ladies. i have a 5 year old. he starts kindergarten in August. so er figured he's old enough for chores. he earns a couple dollars for chores he completes. one of his chores of course is his room. sometimes in stead of money he will get something special. like Sunday the deal was he cleans his room by today and we would order a special backpack for school. we ordered is Sunday. should be here sometime today. i told him he needs to clean his room before we open it. he doesn't clean his room his back pack is out away till summer school. he looks at me and says that's fine. no matter what i do i can not get him to clean his room. I've tried everything. he will do it if i go in there and help him. but i no he needs to learn to do it by him self. any ideas on how i can get him to do it? I'm at a lost! I'm 33 weeks pregnant. i just want some help!

Corner? my mom would tell us we have to sit on our bed unless we are going to clean the room, and no coming out unless its for eating a meal. No tv, nothing, just sit on the bed

ive made him stay in his room. can try the bed tho. that would get boring lol. thank you

punish him. tell him he doesnt get his backpack when school starts, buy a backpack he absolutely hates. something girly. he might throw a tantrum but he has gotta learn. worked with my younger brother when he refused to clean up his messes

I had this same problem with my 3yo. He has a very organized room with pictures of the toys on the bins they go in so its way for him to pick up. I tried the staying in his room until it's clean and he just made it messier. Haha. So I told him he'd have to sit in a chair in the living room until he was ready to clean him room. He'd get tired of the chair and doing nothing so he'd go pick up a couple toys. And then complain he was tired. So he went and sat back down on the chair and when he was ready he'd go pick up more toys. And this just went on until his room was clean. I made him think he was doing it on his terms. Lol. Jedi mom tricks. 😂

these are all great ideas. including the Jedi mom tricks! lol. we use to do a thing I'd give him a number and he would go pick up that many. did it till his room was done. it was a game. and now we will start with it but he gets tiered or hungry or needs fresh air. so i told him today if his room is not cleaned up by tonight he will go with a sitter tomorrow and im taking a trash bag to his room. i will leave a few toys to play with so his room doesnt get messy. he wasnt happy about that. so we shall see.. thanks for all the ideas!
