The one thing, other than having my baby girl, that was memorable during my labor wasn't the pain or the people I had witnessing it. It wasn't the machines going crazy or them declaring I'd need an emergency forced forceps or an emergency c-section if the forceps failed. She even had the OR on standby in the room. It wasn't my hunger from not eating for 13 hours. It was my doctor and her one nurse. Dr.Peterson and nurse Brittany. My doctor was doing everything she could to get my girl out safely because she had the cord around her neck twice, passed her meconium, and got stuck in the canal. While she struggled with that, I couldn't breathe. I couldn't see. My vision and breathing went. And the nurse hovered over me and calmed me down. She put an oxygen mask on me, told me calm down, just look at her, take slow breaths, deep breaths. She was in my face the whole time, helping me, motivating me. She told me to push for my daughters sake so I pushed. She told me breathe for my sake so I breathed. Those two...I will never forget those two. She was the only nurse who was actually helping me. The others stood around and talked, the other was a grumbling bitch. I will never forget the day I had my baby girl. Not only because I beat the odds and had her, a healthy 7 pounds 12.5 ounces of chub, but because of the staff I had to help me through it.
