Has anyone else opted out of regular cervix checks later in their pregnancy? I really feel like I don't want to know until I'm going into labor and head to the hospital with close contractions. I know at that point, they would check me and if I'm not super dilated then they would send me home... But I mean at the doctors office, I just don't really feel like it's necessary because I feel like it would give me false hope considering you can be dilated for weeks before active labor starts.... Anyway, just curious.

I asked my dr about doing the checks and she said they check it in the office that way when you do start to go into labor when you get to the hopsital they can check and see if things are actually progressing. They have a starting point ahead of time to compare it to.

I want to say maybe if I had let them check mine at 35 weeks & 5 days that I would've had a little heads up that my water would've broke 2 days later, but that's not necessarily true because once I went to L&D I still ended up having to be induced because my cervix wasn't progressing at all. Just my personal experience. Plus I didn't want them checking my cervix because last time I got pinched with the "spreader" device. 🙄😂

I just had an appointment today and my Dr asked if I wanted to know if baby girl made any progress... She didn't 😑 now I'm just going to forget it and wait because that shit is uncomfortable! TMI but I haven't had any so my hole is little so it takes her a minute to really get inside 😖 and that makes it even more uncomfortable.

I haven't talked to my doctor about it yet but will at my next appointment... I get why people get it checked and why the doctors do it but I just don't think it's medically necessary.... There are situations where it is and I would be fine with that... But just to tell me that I'm not progressing at 36 weeks? Like I know... Baby isn't due for another 4... I don't know. Totally my personal thought and I'm not against other people doing it... Just don't want my doctors hand inside of me if its not medically necessary for the health of my baby😂 @daij @mommamoose @supermommyx21

My doctor does it because it helps them know exactly everything and have a starting point...I have had close contractions and go in and I'm already effaced and dilated...if it was just dilation then it's fine but effacing also helps tell how soon...so she just checks and yes I hate it! I'm like a completely private person and it freaks me out and takes them awhile because I tense up horribly!

my sister in law has to be checked because her body doesn't register contractions she doesn't feel a single one. she was 8cm with her daughter and didn't know it. she almost had her in the toilet.

My midwife doesn't check until labor, unless I go past my due date. I'm glad she doesn't, some women have been dilated for wks

@kiml7613, that's crazy! Probably a scary, but awesome situation to be in... Not feeling the contractions. But totally scary when you have no idea how things are progressing yourself.
@bianca_rose, that's totally why I don't feel like it's necessary... Because if I go in at 35 weeks and they tell me I'm 1 cm dilated, I'm going to think that labor could be around the corner... But I could stay 1 cm for another 4 weeks and then go into active labor. I'm definitely opting out unless medically necessary

I don't blame you, when you go into labor you'll know lol
