when i was 37 weeks i was checked and i was still closed, at 39 weeks 6days i wasn't really effaced which was at my last appointment but was dilated to 1cm but my cervix was very soft and easy to reach. you could start at any time, i would think, if you are having and bh or contractions it could help you start to dilate, but even If you dilate you could be at 1 or 2 or even 3 for weeks. everyone is different but it could happen soon for you!:)

when should I start dilating if I'm already effaced 70%?

My baby was head down around that time but in just a week he moved to a transverse position, a week later back to head down and then a week after that turned posterior lol. hoping i was able to get him to turn anterior by my next appointment, if i don't have before my next appointment. lol

Yes they told me today. Babies should be head down at 30 weeks.
