@bria, it wasn't too bad, I just got there hella early so it felt like forever lol it was supposed to start at 10 but there was a bunch of stuff going on because a State Rep. came and received an award so we started maybe 10-15 minutes late, but the "orientation" was quick, and they take you for your nutritionist visit in the order of who came in first (so lucky me I was the first to get that done after orientation) they give you your e-wic card and info before you go in to orientation because that's pretty much all you go over (and it's all kinda self explanatory anyways), then after orientation you meet with a nutritionist who goes over the health info they already have from your doctor and ask you if there's any health info that isn't on there or any questions you may have and whatnot, determine your "package", and set up your next appointment. It was about an hour long altogether

Does it cover a lot of groceries ? I'm also in CT so I'm sure it's the same

@bria, it covers a lot more than what people make it seem, they tell you that it's supplemental so you can't get everything you need but it'll cover fruits and vegetables and if you live near a farmer's market they also give you something to cover some goods there although they haven't gotten those checks in yet since it isn't farmers market time around here, and they give you some variety on what brands you can buy and stuff, it seems to be less about pricing and more about size from the way they make it seem. I'm going to see if I'm able to upload the little booklet so you can see because I feel like I did a hella crappy job explaining it lol

@bria, no problem! ❤️ sorry it's a little blurry, but they'll also give you a physical copy at the office in your folder, and you can find it online here http://www.ct.gov/dph/lib/dph/wic_2015/wicaccordianfoldjan2016.pdf and save it to your phone to zoom in on and look at a bit clearer instead of dragging that little folder around and having to pull out the book if you forget some specifics (like when I went to use the card and completely forgot that it was large eggs and not jumbo and that a particular cheese flavor wasn't included, and ended paying a little out of pocket lol, which wasn't a big deal because they weren't really expensive, but I was definitely confused until I read my receipt and the little book again). Also the receipt will tell you your "balance" (it's a bit confusing to read at first though, you kind of just have to remember they go by size for everything except fruits & vegetables, and you don't have to buy the amount they tell you you're allowed to get right away, for example I'm allowed 32 ounces of cereal and can make that 32 oz out of 14 oz boxes or larger and since I already had hella cereal in my house I just got one 16 oz box of something we didn't have so instead of giving me a cash number on my receipt for the remainder it says my remaining benefits for that are 32 oz left for the month that expires on the 9th of next month, and you can always call this number that's on a little thing in your folder or use this website to check your balance online at a website that will also be in your folder. I don't know if every office is different but I went to the Yale office that new haven has on Howard avenue (if you're going there I'll warn you that there's a receptionist that's really rude and talks to people like she hates her job, but the rest of the staff is friendly lol) and it was so much less confusing than I thought it'd be and they'll definitely answer any questions you have and kind of give you a more in depth explanation of the list and everything.
