so I took my niece to see my in laws yesterday we had fun are dinner and before we left she gave everyone hugs and kisses but my mother in law kisser her on the lips. I know she is a God fearing woman and I trust her but I don't like that. its my niece not my child and even if it was my child I wouldn't want any (my husband and I included) to be kissing my child on the lips. I know people do it but I never did with my parents. My neice lives with my mom and is around a lot of older adults (and adult men) I just don't want her thinking people can kiss her on the lips or in her face. how do I tell my mother in law without sounding rude.

Just ask her to kiss her cheek instead. Or talk yo the child and tell her never kiss anyone on their lips. That way when she goes to kiss her your niece will turn her cheek.

Yeah good idea. I love my mother in law I'm going to talk to her. I just don't trust the world that my niece is growing up in and I don't want her childhood tarnished by anything

I feel you I see some people I know kissing babies on the lips and it could be the parent but then I see the wild side of the parent.....absolutely not! I never kissed my mom on the lips just cause Idknow she just never did it it makes me uncomfortable when I see people do it. I might sound close minded but I just don't think it's Ohkie. no one will be kissing my child on the mouth at all not me or my honey

@captjimenez, although I've never kissed my parents on the lips or any other family member as a child, I guess it depends on the parent if they want to. I kiss my baby on the cheek. and so does my so. but it's not only about what's right or wrong, you could have a cold and not know and spread it to the baby. and what some medicine might cure for us, can kill them.

Your so right @6215teenmom you never really know how a child's body can react to anything till it happens. and some families are kissers

@captjimenez, that's the main reason I wouldn't let many people give her kisses as a newborn.
