My son's was the same when his fell off the pediatrician said it was because his cord was so thick some was still healthy tissue so she just told me to clean it with rubbing alcohol 2 times a day I used a qtip and it dried right up.

It looks like it fell off too early. I'd call your ped and see if there is something you can put on it to keep it from getting infected.
