You shouldn't have to lighten it any more for a deep purple and usually the color you put on top won't damage it any more. Manic panic is pretty good stuff. Sally's ion brand has some direct dye colors too. I haven't really used them but I've seen them.
yeah I'm not lightening anymore and I'm using the ion brand my moms used several of those colors and they do work really well plus they're organic so no harmful chemicals! @valrocks

I haven't decided yet but probably a dark or royal purple. Thank you! @valrocks I'm just doing it in steps so my hair stays healthy!

Well they're not organic. They're direct dyes so you don't have to add developer which is better for the hair.
