Ugh so Ive been "clawless" (as all my friends and family call it) for a while and my natural nails are still in bad shape from how often I kept my nails done. I had a hangnail a few days ago that I removed after it was becoming a nuisance but now the side of my finger is all swollen and hurts and has a tiny spot of discoloration which pretty much screams infection 😪; I haven't had anything like this since I stopped biting my nails years ago 😓 going to attempt to see if soaking it in warm water mixed antibacterial soap and Epsom salt multiple times for a couple of days helps it any before I get too doctor visit happy lol.

Tea tree oil. And just an FYI, you can get your nails done for 50 years and still have flawless nails when they come off. If they're ruined, it's how they were getting done that got them ruined! I'm a licensed nail technician also, just so you know you're getting good information :)

@littlepeanut91, I never even thought of tea tree oil! Luckily I have a bunch in my house thanks to piercings I have. And thanks for the FYI! I've always heard so many different things about having fake nails but never from an actual nail tech. I never had an issue with my nails being done especially since I wasn't getting them done so often but the past 2 years I've kept them done with little to no breaks between for my natural nails and didn't have many if any issues with my real nails or fake nails until I switched nail salons permanently a few months ago (out of convenience).

You're welcome! I hope the tea tree does you some good!!!! And yea, be careful where you go! Your nails can get damaged so easily if the person is even a HAIR too tough with the nail file, or if they use cheap acrylic powder, as I am assuming you use acrylic :)

@littlepeanut91, Yeah I used acrylic for a while religiously but had started switching between the uv gel and acrylic and had recently switched over to gel permanently before I switched salons and just kept with the gel when I switched, I'll definitely be switching salons again however and hopefully won't have any issues this time around! Next time I'll even be getting my nails done professionally won't be until baby shower time so that gives my nails lots of time to heal and gives me time to find a better salon!

If you'd like to strengthen your nails until then, you can do a daily manicure with olive oil, vinegar and baking soda. Use the baking soda in place of water, a teaspoon of baking soda and a teaspoon of olive oil. Afterwards, wash your hands, and then massage olive oil onto your cuticles and nails one by one. It helps with moisture, and massaging each nail promotes blood flow which helps strengthen your nails :)
