How effaced do you have to be to go into labor? Which is more important between dilating and effacing? I know both have to happen in order to give birth but I wasn't sure if you have to be 100% effaced in order to dilate enough to go into active labor or vice versa? I'm not sure if this question makes sense lol. Is it better to thin out first or open up first? Like which one means a better chance of labor?

I think it means how thin your cervix is

Effaced means thinning of the cervix and dilation means opening of the cervix I believe

Yes I know that I meant which is more important. Which is a better indicator of labor. But I googled it and effacement is more important. @izamarpink

Yes because without it thinning you can push lol. It's weird how are body works and does things at its right timing

I figured dilating means more. But I guess even if someone is 6cm dilated and only 40% effaced then it doesn't mean anything. But if you're 90% effaced and 1cm you could go into labor tomorrow. If that makes sense. @izamarpink

I was 100% effaced and 7 centimeters dilated. I hope that helps! no pushing until 10 lol but I never got the chance to push

I was talking about at weekly appointments when the doc checks your cervix and tells you how many centimeters dilated you are and what percent effaced. Like my question was how many days after that did people go into labor. That's crazy though! @nichole_lynn
