I'm afraid I don't know enough about new born care... So ere are random questions I have , feel free to answer any or all of them . Please don't judge me for not knowing or asking something super obvious :)

1.)is there mouth hygiene things you do everyday? They don't have teeth to brush but you gotta do something or they will have nasty mouth rights?

2.) do you swaddle a baby before bed or is that a hazard?

3.)I saw my sister in law not change her baby because it was just wet not poop. Is it okay to not immediately change then?

4.)what are things that I should never do? Anything that maybe a new mom wouldn't know , that you had to be told by someone else.

5.)when do you start "tummy time?"

6.)what are some things I need in the babies room I might not think of?

7.)known ways to prevent SIDS?

That's all I got for now.... But there will probably be more

@shayleighnikole, I think there's nothing you do with their mouth, swaddling before bed I believe is ok. @shayleighnikole

@shayleighnikole, I would change baby right away to prevent diaper rash and uncomfortability and there are nothing to prevent SIDS beside laying baby on their back and keeping be free from blankets. @shayleighnikole babies r us has free newborn care classes too. You may want to check into that.

Pacifiers are good and proven way to help prevent sids, change the baby when the baby needs changed to keep from getting a rash, tummy time can start as soon as baby is born, you don't need to wash their mouth out it is fine because they don't have any teeth to worry about, you can swaddle before during or after bed time most newborns like it but my little girl did not lol, and there could be free newborn classes around you if you don't feel as prepared as you would like :)

One thing I didn't know and found out the hard way was to never let the black belly button get wet or it can cause issues. When it falls off naturally you can get baby's belly button wet.

1. during bathtime, take a clean wet washcloth and gently just clean their gums. milk build up can contribute to thrush. wont prevent it but itll lessen the odds of your baby getting it

2. depends on the baby, most babies wont sleep without being swaddled. mine liked it for the first week, after that she screamed.

3. i dont reccomend letting them sit wet for too long IF YOU DONT HAVE TO. Their urine can irritate their skin and cause rashes and/or infections.

4. do not give them a bath until the umbelical chord falls off, and never leave them alone on an elevated surface while changing. always keep one hand on them.

5. my pediatrician recommended we wait until she could hold her head up on her own. ask yours for their advice on that because everyone says different.

6. my baby was born in june of 2014 so a humidifier was necessary to keep her room from getting too dry.

7. keep all soft blankets and toys out of the crib. use a mesh bumber instead of the big thick cloth ones because as baby getts bigger they might roll. basically just a sheet is all you need in there and that'll cut risks. but nobody really knows what causes sids so theres no sure no way how to prevent it. I coslept with mine for the first 6 months.

With a clean wet washcloth, you should wipe out their mouth. I do it at the beginning of every bath. They only need a bath every couple days for the first few months. Their skin will dry out easily. Change them right away to prevent diaper rash. Use a diaper cream from day 1. I like a+d. Once they are about 8 weeks old and arnt pooping at night, you can not change at night to help encourage sleeping though (a quick feeding without being changed wakes them a lot less) just make sure to put a thick coat of diaper cream on at bedtime to protect the skin. You can start tummy time from day one. And when baby is sleeping but you are awake with them, baby can sleep on their tummy, it will help keep their head from getting a flat spot. Co-sleeping (when done safely) and breastfeeding is know to reduce the risk of sids and a pacifier. If your breast feeding wait at least 3 weeks to introduce the pacifier to prevent nipple confusion.

another thing that could help prevent SIDS that my doctor told me was having baby sleep at a slight incline. For the crib they sell things that can go on top of the mattress, under the sheet to help them be at a slight angle instead of flat. But that's why I got a rock n play as our bassinet as well as a pack n play because the rock n play has been known to help cut the risk of SIDS since it is at a slight incline. Again I'm also a FTM and my baby isn't due for another 3 weeks but these are things that I've both read about and asked my doc about :)

Oh and don't use blankets, pillows, stuffed animals or ANY sort of bumper in the crib, even the mesh ones.
