What is actually considered "full term"? I thought 40 weeks. But my dr told me that she won't let me get to 40 weeks. So now I'm confused. I feel like I know absolutely nothing about labor and pregnancy.
Term is considered 37 weeks. My csection is scheduled for 37 weeks and a few days. My oldest that is 10 was born at 37 weeks. She was 7lbs 7oz and 18inches long and was perfectly healthy.
just went to the doctors today and I asked and my doctor told me full term is 39 weeks he wouldn't induce any time before that unless circumstances change for baby or me but he did talk to Me about how it changed
Idk about that post above.. My son was born via emergency c section at 37 weeks 3 days, he was considered term, and not a premie. He never stayed in the NICU and was 5lbs 9oz. We got to go home 3 days later.
There's preterm, early term, and full term. Being that the medical field is consistently changing many older doctors are unaware or simply choose to continue to use what they learned. They discovered that brain and lung development continues until about 39-40 weeks. Although a baby can be born earlier with little or no stay in NICU.
OB's will say 37 is "term" because that's when the placenta starts to deteriorate slowly. Not sure why the above is saying 36 is term, given how anything a month and more is premature. My girls are preemies born at 36 weeks. There's no reason your doctor should deliver early unless there's a risk for you, the baby or both. He/she needs to let you go until 40-41.6
