I'm having a natural birth, I've heard that the epidural messes your back up plus I'm scared they can hit the wrong nerve in my back so I'm choosing not to have one. that's just my opinion.

5cm for epidural cause if you wait too late you'll feel everything still

@kristen1120, I agree . I heard it could Paralyze you . Not to scare anyone.

It'll just be me and my bf in the room . I guess it matters to you and who your more comfortable with being in there with you .

@miranda941, also I'm against it because the needle broke in my step Mom's back, I'm sure there's other pain medication that they can give you of the pain gets too bad. but I'm going into labor looking at it as it's only temporary pain and once I hold my baby girl it'll all be worth it

there is only one other pain med u can have and it didn't do anything for me at all

I'm getting an epidural, anything to help make me more comfortable so I can deliver without getting anxiety from the pain- I would love to do a water birth and I know some hospitals have water birthing tubs available so I am going to look into it- I just want my man in the room, too many people will be overwhelming and I want as little of that as possible

I'd like to get the epidural as late as possible so it doesn't wear off before the big push but I won't risk not being able to get it so if they say I need it earlier, I'll do it earlier. Those are my opinions and plans anyway :)

@abbydi, have you taken Lamaze classes yet? I am in them right now and they have taught us that there are other ways of controlling pain as well. I highly recommend going if u never have before!

@kimberkatherine, I'm not sure you will be able to do a water birth and an epidural because the epidural causes u to go numb from the waist down and u have to have constant fetal monitoring once the epidural is administered. I could be wrong but that is what they told us for all Florida Hospitals at the lamaze classes I have been going too.

@xariansmom516 we have them scheduled for this month and next, I'd much rather feel the pain for a little while then nothing at all. I feel that feeling just pressure would ruin my experience of child birth, being a FTM I can't go through 9 months and then not feel a thing . I just hope my boyfriend can handle me being in pain

@abbydi, you will love them, I know I have! I totally know what u mean too and feel the same. I am hoping to go as naturally as possible with maybe only some help from a drug called stadol (sp?) which is just supposed to take the edge off pain wise. I have really fallen in love with the squating, hands/knees, and birthing ball positions which will all help with labor/ delivery. You will learn about them in the classes.

Awesome! I can't wait to see what can help. My mom raves about Lamaze ! She gave birth naturally 3 times, if she can do it so can I!
