So I have this huge dilemma, have been in the hospital just got out yesterday. They put me on medication to stop my contractions but it makes me vomit and completely lethargic which causes me to be severely dehydrated. which causes more contractions. I can't work while on the medication so my doctor has suggested bedrest. The problem is I can't afford to not work. My maternity leave is already without pay and my office manager is terrible and has been looking for a reason to fire me since I found out I was pregnant. Because they didn't expect this when they hired me. Well obviously neither did I. I don't know what to do.

normally I don't suggest things like this but you can get assistance if you need it. the most important thing is that you and baby are healthy, so if you get laid off, file unemployment, apply for food stamps and wic, just do what you have to do for your health first.

I don't think they're allowed to fire you due to complications in your pregnancy. If they did you could sue them I think but if you did end up losing your job you could file for temporary disability due to complications with your pregnancy :)

I was in the same situation. My pregnancy was high risk and I was put on bed rest several times throughout the pregnancy. They gave me a hard time at work and my leave was also without pay. They fired me at 32 weeks through a voicemail. I got unemployment benefits right away because they didn't have a valid reason to fire me. They can get in huge trouble if they do fire you and you have dr orders

It will be a year in this month @harmony2078 . But it is a private practice dentist so they can fire me for whatever and block my unemployment because in Missouri pregnancy is considered a choice.

If you have been @ your job for at least 1 year you are covered under FMLA.

They cannot fire you. They have laws they have to follow. And it's called discrimination. They can't fire you b/c you're pregnant. Make your year and go on FMLA. That's 12 weeks

since they have less than 50 employees and are a private practice I can't get FMLA we have looked into it. My husband and I checked.

In your state MHRA covers discrimination based on gender. Because pregnancy is a circumstance that specifically affects women, any discrimination b/c of pregnancy can be classified as a form of gender discrimination.

my husband was looking up stuff like that a few weeks ago because of all the trouble my boss was giving me. I started leaking fluid and she was giving me trouble for needing to go to the hospital.
