Yep, it's called co-washing method. It's great for curly hair.

I'm not a doctor but "sulfate-free" cleanser convinced me it's safer than a shampoo with "sodium lauryl sulfate" that makes suds :)

Oh, believe me I know what you mean! I have a daughter with a thin curly hair. It helped to grew it longer and keep it in braids when she was little. Maybe you will find a book called Curly Girl. It helped me to understand how to care for a curly and wavy hair. Good luck!
