Does anyone else's one year old or maybe a little older slaps or punches themselves when they get…

My son would hit his head with his fist when he would get mad. I would grab his hand and tell him not to hit my baby. After a little while he grew out of it

My son hits his head with his fist too! I grab his hand and pat it and say NO, don't do that. Idk where they get that from. @karnamarie

My 15 month old head butts the floor couch, coffee table, and pulls his own hair when mad I was told he'd eventually grow out of it

one of my one year olds at the daycare bangs her head on things when she gets mad..

@shwayzelovee I read that toddlers do that because they still lack the verbal skills to express their emotion. They say it's phase they grow out of. My son stopped about 18 months or so

My son does exactly that. Smh kinda made me scared little bit. When he was younger it started off him pulling his hair (now it's cut) so he punched himself in the head and slaps himself in the face. @wyatts_mommy_0106

yeah at that age they don't understand how to express their emotions... so they use hitting, biting, pushing etc to show what they feel.. Usually when it's directed towards themselves is because they are extremely frustrated

Yeah it scared me so I called my mom and she said to put your hand there and say no don't do that your gonna hurt the baby but that pissed him off more and then she told me to let him do it and he'll eventually do it hard enough to hurt himself or he will just grow out of it if I feel he is gonna hurt himself really bad I pick him up and tell him it's ok to be mad that and give him hugs and usually when I put him down he is fine.

@shwayzelovee lol! I completely understand! I was worried too then I started doing a little research and found out toddlers either hit themselves or pull their own hair sometimes when angry or frustrated because they don't know how else to deal with the emotions

I did the exact same thing lol and my son got even more mad so I'll let him "beat himself up" until he learns eventually when it hurts him. But other women said they they'll grow out of it eventually. That's just so weird to me though. I wonder if I did that as a baby lol. @wyatts_mommy_0106

Yeah if you feel he is gonna bang his head too hard put a pillow in the floor where he is about to slam his head cushion the impact. I know I did my mom said I would get mad and if she ignored me during my fit I'd ram my head in the wall or floor and I grew out of it then I just started throwing toys afterwards lol

Awhh lmao I feel sorry for my son now because he doesn't know how to deal with his emotions. I really appreciate you taking me that. Now I just need to keep an eye on him. @karnamarie
