Sylar was diagnosed with autism about six months ago and it's taken me awhile to open up about it. I've been so afraid of my boy being hurt by those who are unaware. Those who are uneducated. Those who will be quick to call him names or look at him differently. Autism doesn't mean that Sylar is not normal. It just meant that he has a harder time learning things. From the age of one, Sylar would mimic and play like every kid his age. And now at the age of two, Sylar can spell add, subtract, match and can memorize almost anything you put in front of him. He may not be able to speak, but he knows the entire alphabet, can trace, put out sentences, and knows numbers 1-100 by heart. All his therapists can't believe how smart he is for his age! Sure, making eye contact can make him uncomfortable at times, and the vacuum isn't the most pleasant sound to him either. But he's getting the help he needs. Just because you have autism doesn't mean you can't get better. And thanks to all the therapy Sylars been getting better and better. We are so proud of him! So please don't feel sorry for him. Or anyone on the spectrum. That's the reason I've kept this to myself for so long. Sylar is just like any other child. Take time to become more acquainted with what autism truly is. Before you stare, shake your head, or laugh at a child for having a meltdown in public, please remember that you have no idea what's happening in that child's head.
Way to go Mama! My daughter was born with Down Syndrome, and I can completely relate! It's hard, but it's an amazing journey! I know I wouldn't have her any other way! Keep up your strength and advocate your ass off :)

Autistic kids are very smart and very good with numbers .. My niece has autism and DeGorge syndrome (I think it's spelled right ) they told my sister my niece wouldn't be able to walk or talk or we'll never be on the same level as kids her age .. It's a process and we been working a long time but she has overcome all the things the Drs told us she would be able to do ..
