what are your guys opinions on vaginal ultrasounds?
Like @babyjunebug said, they could catch something earlier and it could actually help you. I know there is never an exact reason for a miscarriage, but if I hadn't gotten in so early this time and gotten a transvaginal ultrasound, and did certain things EARLY this pregnancy, I may have lost this baby too. Who knows, but I really am happy I got one. There isn't any risk and it could help a lot.
Yeah you can always do that, but I'm just wondering what it is that you are not comfortable with? There really isn't any risk too it. It isn't like they just do that for no reason. I'm happy that I did it because I have miscarried before (not having ever even seen my doctor yet) and they could get me in a lot sooner and get a good visual of baby and more information with a transvaginal ultrasound. 'Cause it is up closer to where baby is at.
@mommytoavery, well I'm only about 7 weeks and I heard the heart beat on a normal ultrasound.
The first time I heard the heartbeat, 7 weeks, they had to do transvaginal cause that was the only way
@babymay2016, yeah I'm just not comfortable with it so I think I'm going to tell my doctor not to do it.
@deannarenee721, it's your body they can't force you to do anything. But it's really not bad.
I had transvaginal ultrasounds done the first two ultrasounds I had. It is slightly uncomfortable but I don't see how it could cause a problem. They wouldn't do it if it did. It is much easier to see baby so early with a transvaginal ultrasound.. you can not see as much without it. I see no problem with it. I have also had them done for other reasons like to check my ovaries and such when I had cysts on my ovaries. Not a big deal at all honestly.. Also it isn't any more uncomfortable than having your cervix checked or getting a pap smear.
@twinscomingsoon, I have had a regular ultrasound done when I went in to get my breast ultrasound. They showed me the baby and I could see and hear the heartbeat.
Well unfortunately it's the only way to see a fetus/sac early during pregnancy. Regular ultrasounds can't pick it up because it's too small.
@twinscomingsoon, that's what I was thinking but I still feel uncomfortable with it and I don't want it done. But they told me I pretty much had to cause they do it on first appointments. I don't want to do something I'm not comfortable with.
I have to get them every 2 weeks to check my cervix. I don't see how a transvaginal ultrasound can cause a miscarriage. It's no worse than being penetrated during sex. It can cause some irritation but sex during pregnancy does the same thing.
@katnichole17, they just said they always do it on the first appointment.
@katnichole17, the new doctor wouldn't be able to see me until may 27th. which is after my first trimester. I haven't even seen an OB yet, and I won't see one on the 14th either.
@katnichole17, I've had a regular ultrasound done, but it wasn't by my OB. it was done when I got my breast ultrasound. But I have an appointment on the 14th and the want to do one. if I refuse I'll probably have to go to a different doctor, and they can't see me until may 27th.
@deannarenee721, they usually only do it really early to check on the baby when it's still too small to see with a regular ultrasound. They also use it to check your cervix to make sure it's not to short or thin. I've never heard of them causing miscarriages but I have known people who caught issues with their cervix and got put on bed rest early enough and if they wouldn't they could have had a high risk of miscarriage. People have sex all through pregnancy and a vaginal ultrasound is a lot more gentle than that.
I personally think they're uncomfortable. I had to get one done to check on the baby my 1st appt and I hated it.
@twinscomingsoon I've heard some horror stories about them, like they cause miscarriages. I'm not comfortable with getting one in the first place but I just want to hear some opinions on them.
getting a pap smear is much worse than that.
