So I need opinions moms.....my husband and I had chosen godparents to baptize my son before he was born. Since then the godfather (his brother) tried to commit suicide and has made various bad choices. I expressed to my husband that I didn't want him as the godfather because I felt that he was not mentally stable and not able to fulfill his godfather duties. He begged me to give him a second chance and I did and he's still in the same position as before. I tried talking to his mother and she told me I was wrong for doing that and that her daughter (the godmother) said she didn't want to be the godmother anymore. So now we have no godparents and his mom brother and sister want nothing to do with the baptism. His mom thinks I just want my family to be his godparents and she snapped off on me. Am I wrong? I just want the best for my son 😔

No your not wrong I wouldn't want someone who isn't mentally stable being my kids godparent either a god parent is someone who steps up and take the responsibility of taking care of the child when the parents not able to do so with that being said if he constantly makes bad decisions and tried to commit suicide why would u leave you kid in the hands of that .? They're just being selfish

Not at all! Many people don't understand the sentiment of a godparent! It is someone who acts the role of guardian, role model and parent to the child outside of the biological parents. I would want someone who would/could be there if I never could and he seems to wishywashy.

Your not wrong at all, we ended up just having a godmother for my son. I was going to pick my aunt which is like my mom but she gets really bad headaches and likes to over due her medication at times and gets to were to she can't even get out of bed. So you are not wrong at all. Pick who you think is best for your child and someone who could take care and provide for your child if something where to ever happen to you or your husband (not saying something will but that's how I made my decision)

kind off topic but @andrew_nikolai2015 you don't have to get your son baptized because he's already a child of God now me..my ass need to get baptized I am a sinner but I have repent

I don't think you're wrong. I really regret having my husband's brother as my kids' godfather. I'm Catholic too and it's supposed to be someone who will help raise the child to be a good Christian! do what's best for your child and don't worry about hurting a grown man's feelings for doing it!
